Talk shows have been a favourite past-time of many for a long time, hence the existence of numerous such shows, most notably The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Jerry Springer Show and The Tyra Show. Zimbabwe has birthed it’s own new talk show titled The Mitchell Gumbo Show, hosted by Mitchell Gumbo and co-hosted by KC and rapper/blogger/social commentator Noble Stylz.
For the pilot episode of The Mitchell Gumbo Show the host Mitchell Gumbo is joined by the crazy but articulate and intelligent KC and Noble to discuss the new Zimbabwean education curriculum that has been recently established by the Zimbabwean Education minister Dr. Lazarus Dokora. The guest of the episode is the controversial and flamboyant Christian Hip-Hop star Mudiwa.
While I applaud the initiative there is room for improvement and I do have a few suggestions. The inclusion on experts on discussion topics would be a very welcome development. A sturdier camera view is also needed. The sitting arrangements may also need to be revised. Other than that I like where it is going. Hopefully the Zimbabwe national broadcaster will pick this show up in the on-going digitalization programme. Shout out to Jan Jam, Tiles for Africa and The Volt for sponsoring this show. I hope other corporates will follow suit in sponsoring the arts.
