In case you hadn’t noticed I’m from Zimbabwe (yes, Bob’s country). Below are 10 tracks that on constant rotation on my playlist. You may notice that some of them may seem unknown but I’ve never been one to just go with the flow.
DJ Stavo – Simudza Ngoma (Feat. Jah Prayzah)
This is my party starter right here. The song talks about a party animal whose domestic life is in whack because of club hopping. I can’t resist breaking out some dance moves to this one.
Reverb7 & Adiona – Million
When it comes to house music Reverb7 has THAT thing! By now I’m sure you’ve realized that I like getting my dance on. This is bold proclamation by a woman that she’s the one in the million that you are looking for.
Sharky – Soko Matemai (Acoustic Version)
I’ve always liked the Soko Matemai song and when I heard the acoustic version I immediately fell in love with it. The message conveyed sounds more sincere with everything else stripped down to just a piano and a voice.
Oliver Mtukudzi – Dzikama
If you thought that Kendrick was the first to tell people to be humble, you’re in for a rude awakening. Mdhara Tuku talks about that one guy that refuses to grow up and is stuck in a competition about showing off and bagging females. Everything has a time and one needs to know when the time has passed. This song was so point it was redone for Tuku’s recent album Eheka Nhai Yahweh!
Kae Chaps – Horror
This is the newest song on my playlist but this kid, relatively unknown has made a song that could very well be his breakout hit. It’s not your ordinary “I’m on the come-up” track but Kae Chaps showcases his rap singing abilities and does make you want to see what he delivers next. The replay value is bananas.
Karizma – Dreams So Big (Feat. Tehn Diamond)
This song speaks to full-time creatives who are nearing their 30s but still can’t seem to be financially indepenedent on their passion. It even talks about our parents’ fears of such a career path.
Cal_Vin – Izandla Emoyeni (Feat. Asaph)
This is one of those songs that blew me away the first time I heard it. I see a lot of potential in this track, from movie scores, advertisements etc.
Ngoni – Wobvira
I think this song embodies what love is all about. One of my favourite love songs, OF ALL TIME. I dare you to listen to this and not get in your feels.
Tamy – The People
This is a song by one of the most talented female artists representing Zimbabwe at the moment. A song about the celebration of life in an everyday setting.
Maestro IV – Aziwe Ke
This is the epitome of what it is to turn up in the city of Kings, and queens . You have heard autotune used before but not like this.
