A Blackish spin-off, yipee! fakes excitement. It has been over two years since I last tuned into the lives of the Johnson family. Honestly I thought I’d outgrown the whole Johnson thing. How wrong I was…
Grown-ish follows the exploits (or lack of) of Zoey Johnson as she transitions from being the high school it-girl to a college freshman. If you have ever been to varsity you will relate to this show, which also explains the channel its on, Freeform targeted at teens and young adults. While Black-ish was the view of the world from her parents generation’s perspective Grown-ish is the view of the world from a millennial perspective.
We see Zoey tackle love, sex, drugs, school work and everything else between as she is now in a world where her parents don’t make decisions for her. Yara really shines in adding depth to a character we only got to know a bit of.
We see some familiar faces in here. Trevor Jackson as Aaron Jackson. You may remember him form the Disney movie Let It Shine (before the facial hair became a thing). He is also an accomplished singer, with a few releases under his name, check out his website for more info.
Still on familiar faces we have Chloe x Halle (Beyonce’s protégées) playing the twins Jazlyn and Skylar Foster.

Without going into spoiler mode let me jump into my review of Grown-ish
I’m doing this article after completing the season one finale, hopefully season 2 will reach us before the end of the year. The good news is that it has got the nod for a 20 episode season 2 so we will see more of Zoey and the gang.
There, I did it, NO SPOILER, at all!
