After many date changes we now all know that we can expect the seventh season of HBO‘s Game of Thrones to air on 16 July 2017. The trailer however, though no dialogue is present shows us quite a story for the seventh season.
The trailer focuses on three characters Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister. These are people who have recently ascended to the thrones of Winterfell, Dragonstone and Westeros respectively. We see them take a “long walk” to their thrones.
These three are people who have come a long way since the first season of Game of Thrones. Hence the “long walk”.
The eye featured at the end of the trailer has been a cause of huge speculation, which some claiming it’s the Night King‘s eye while others say it’s the eye of the giant Wun Wun, who died in Season 5. Since the white walkers have the ability to create a white walker out of every dead creature it is not far fetched. This is why bodies need to be burnt. Finally, Winter is here!
A different group also says that it is the eye of Macumber. This is the name of the deity whose eye the Game of Thrones world is in. He is first referenced in Season 1 by Robb Stark. He is referenced again in Season 4 by Oberyn Martell to Tywin Lannister. “Some believe the king choked,” Tywin said, talking about Joffrey’s recent demise. “Some believe the sky is blue because we live inside the eye of a blue-eyed giant,” Oberyn replied.
The incestuous royalty who did the ultimate walk of shame in season 5 and has through the course of the seasons lost her children has come back angrier and crueler. She has asserted herself to be the human villain of this season. As she sits on the iron throne (the coveted throne of them all) she will be taking no prisoners.
Season 6 ended with Daenerys heading to Westeros (where all the action seems to be). In the trailer we see her on the Dragonstone throne… Through the course of the years we have learnt never to underestimate her as she is testament to the phrase, “started from the bottom“ .
Rising above the ranks from being just Ned Stark’s bastard to King of the North Jon Snow has nullified the popular phrase, “You know nothing Jon Snow” said by Ygritte in Season 4.
Jon Snow is not about the politics, he has always been the stand-up guy for morality. Suddenly dying at the end of season 5 shook a lot of people up but season 6 ushered his return. Winter is here and he hopes to unite the kingdoms to fight against their common enemy, the White Walkers.
For those who do not know (sigh) what a white walker is, think of it as the literally cold version of a zombie that turns white and has blue eyes.
Rumoured to have just seven episodes and ending on season 8 Game of Thrones has us glued to our TVs (or Computer screens if you will) for a bit longer and has become arguably one of the most watched shows of our generation.
