This year was a very eventful year and I got to meet many new people but there was one person that stood out among the crowd of new people that I met. A handsome fella whose talking speed signifies that there’s no hurry in Africa. I am proud to say that that someone was ME!
You may be thinking, “But how are you the best person you met?”. In 2018 I made a lot of life-changing decisions that I started as I was exiting my 20s and dapping my 30s. Allow me to break it down.
- I said NO to Abuse!
After a lot of anti-climaxes, ghosting and emotional draining I detached myself from the monster that was my 3 year relationship. Believe it or not I tried to make it work, even thought I was going to put a ring on it (well, a ring was somewhere in the situation but that’s a story for another day). Lesson learnt. Don’t let anyone make you feel like less than what you really are. Don’t let their darkness eclipse you.
- I Moved Out
Guess what else I did this year? I finally left the nest. Hooray independence! I had been making contribution towards expenses but moving out was a whole different level! It taught me a valuableable lesson. There will never be a right time to do anything. In the immortal words of Nike, “just do it!”
- No More Freebies
I had been hinting on it for over years now but this year I finally put my size 9s down (10s if you’re in the USA). Say no to exploitation! I have a lot of things for people that advanced their careers and objectives and all I got was a thank you in the DM. Flip that! I don’t eat thank yous. My weekly delicacy of sadza nezondo needs financing ka. If I am to put in work, PAY ME!
- X-Men Recruiter
It’s one thing to lose one person but to lose a group of people? I finally chose to cut off people who don’t add value to my life but just decrease value instead. Always keep a small circle has been my motto and this year I finally lived up to it for real. If you haven’t heard from me in a while this is probably the reason.
At this rate 2019 me is going to be a whole epic movie!
