There was speculation that a Tupac biopic was in the works but I’m glad to announce that it’s not just speculation anymore. Lionsgate Films are responsible for the All Eyez On Me biopic, about the life of the legendary artist Tupac Amaru Shakur or as he was commonly known, 2Pac.
In the starring role of the legendary superstar is relative newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. (whose father worked with ‘Pac Shakur on the song “Toss It Up” off his last studio album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory). Playing the iconic Afeni Shakur is The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira. Jamal Woolard, who also played The Notorious B.I.G. in the 2009 film Notorious, returns to reprise his role as Big Poppa. Famed music video director Benny Boom was responsible for directing this biopic.
All Eyez On Me is set for a June 16 2017 release date that also coincides with what would have been ‘Pac’s 46th birthday.
Are you as psyched as I am? After watching Straight Outta Compton and BET‘s The New Edition Story I’m impatiently waiting for this one. Hopefully they did justice to the man who according to Rolling Stone magazine is among The Greatest 100 Artists of All Time.
Coincidentally today (7 April 2017) Tupac is being inducted into the prestigious The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. under the Performers category. He is being inducted in his first year of eligibility too. To be eligible to be an inductee is only possible after 25 years of one’s first recording. You can check the full requirements here.
